CMM®-Based Assessment
The People CMM® is
a set of guidelines for improving the capability and readiness
of an organization's workforce in the context of the IDEALSM
approach to process improvement. The People CMM®-Based
Assessment Method supports organizations in using the People
CMM® to guide improvements in their workforce practices.
The People CMM®-Based Assessment must be led by an SEI(SM)-authorized
Lead Assessor using an SEI(SM)-approved appraisal method.
This formal assessment
is a diagnostic tool that supports, enables, and encourages
an organization's commitment to improving its ability to attract,
develop, motivate, organize, and retain the talent needed
to steadily improve its organizational capability. The method
focuses on identifying improvements that are most beneficial,
given an organization's business goals and current maturity
level. It is designed to achieve the following objectives:
- Identify strengths
and weaknesses in workforce practices against a community
standard.
- Build consensus around
the fundamental workforce problems facing the organization.
- Set priorities for
improvement needs so that the organization can concentrate
its attention and resources on a few vital improvement actions.
- Galvanize the organization
to take action on needed improvements immediately following
the assessment.
A People CMM®-Based Assessment will consists of the
following Four Phases:
- Preparing phase
- preparing for the assessment
- Surveying phase
- conducting the workforce practices survey
- Assessing phase
- conducting the on-site assessment
- Reporting phase
- reporting the assessment result
Pre-Assesment
A Pre-Assessment conducted
just before the formal assessment will help in accurate diagnosis
of an organizations readiness for the formal assessment and
provide a chance to address any deficiencies before attempting
the formal People CMM®-Based Assessment.
QAI consultants will use their experience to identify areas
that require attention and will help in devising an action
plan to improve an organization's assessment score. The primary
activities include:
- Training organization
staff on how to prepare for the assessment;
- Assisting in developing
and deploying Key Process Areas;
- Reviewing documents
for the "essential" parts that assessors require;
- Coaching staff through
practice interviews;
- Identifying and fixing
People CMM® gaps.
The Pre-Assessment typically takes four days. The assessment
and training will be custom-ised by QAI to an organization's
requirements, addressing specific areas of concern.
People
CMM® Based Abridged Assessment (PCBAA)
QAI's People
CMM®-Based Abridged Assessment (PCBAA) is a formal "quick"
assessment methodology based on the formal People CMM®
based assessment. This reveals the strengths and weaknesses
in the organization's workforce management and development
processes, at varying levels of detail. The PCBAA provides
a low-cost evaluation of the maturity of an organization's
people development processes. While the results of a PCBAA
are not of the same depth as a formal People CMM® based
assessment, they are fairly representative of the organization's
process standing. It is frequently used in two scenarios.
First, during the initial phase of commencing a People CMM®-based
process improvement program in the organization in order to
baseline the current process maturity and conduct a Gap Analysis.
Second, to regularly assess an on-going process improvement
program's direction and strength.
