CMM® Based Abridged Assessment (CBAA)
QAI
uses CBAA to diagnose an organizations baseline maturity
profile. This includes understanding the level of maturity
of the organization's existing processes, assessing the
degree of implementation and institutionalization of these
processes, briefing Senior Managers on the Assessment
Findings and facilitate in the laying down of an initial
Action Plan to smoothen the organization's quality journey.
CBAA is a formal "quick" assessment methodology
based on the CBA-IPI and Interim Profile. Both approaches
reveal the strengths and weaknesses in the organization's
software process improvement program, at varying levels
of detail.
The CBAA provides a low-cost evaluation of the maturity
of an organization's software engineering and management
processes. While the results of a CBAA are not at the
same depth as a CBA-IPI, they are fairly representative
of the organization's process standing.
It is frequently used in two scenarios. First, during
the initial phase of commencing a CMM®-based process
improvement program in the organization in order to baseline
the current process maturity and conduct a Gap Analysis.
Second, to regularly assess an on-going process improvement
program's direction and strength.
Pre-Assessment
A Pre-Assessment conducted
just before the formal assessment will help in accurate
diagnosis of an organizations readiness for the formal
assessment and provide a chance to address any deficiencies
before attempting the formal CBA-IPI Assessment.
The Pre-Assessment is designed to help an organization
prepare for a formal CBA-IPI assessment. QAI consultants
use their experience to pinpoint areas that require attention
and will help in devising an action plan to improve an
organizations assessment score. The primary activities
include:
-
Training organization staff on how to prepare for
the assessment;
-
Assisting in developing and deploying Key Process
Areas;
- Reviewing
documents for the "essential" parts that
assessors require;
- Coaching
staff through practice interviews;
- Identifying
and fixing CMM® gaps.
The assessment and training will be custom-fit by
QAI to an organization's requirements, addressing
specific areas of concern.
CBA-IPI
Assessments
Formal
SW-CMM® Assessment is appropriate for software-intensive
companies working toward improving their software processes.
The formal assessment will be carried out by a SEISM-authorized
Lead Assessor to ensure that the practices conform to
an approved standard. QAI implements the official CBA-IPI
process, which will include:
- Defining the
assessment goals;
- Tailoring the
assessment to fit your constraints;
- Training and
qualifying the assessment team;
- Opening briefing
explaining the CBA-IPI process;
- Selecting projects
to participate;
- Distributing
the official maturity questionnaire;
- On-site document
review and preparation;
- Interviews with
key managers and practitioners;
- Assessment wrap-up:
findings briefing, maturity rating, strengths &
weaknesses, and recommended improvement actions.
CBA-IPI
assessments are designed for organizations that are ready
for a full, authorized verification of their maturity
level. The CBA-IPI approach provides insight into the
existing strengths and weaknesses of the software development
and management processes, information that is used to
assess the maturity of an organization's software processes.
