With the onset of globalization, the world has become much smaller and today, it is just one open market place. Project success has become a key differentiator and an indicator of overall performance among competitors. Project Managers hence, are put under increased pressure to deal with various challenges emerging from unrelated facets. Under such a scenario ensuring project success, delivering projects on time and within budget becomes particularly difficult to achieve. Statistics of projects show a significant trend of increasingly failed projects, prematurely closed projects, projects with cost/schedule overrun etc. They also show only a few well-executed, successful projects. At the same time, there has been an increasing trend of process maturity, knowledge management, historic data availability and new tools and technologies to execute projects as per plan. What are the reasons for project failure in this situation and how does one manage this grey area in which the problem itself is not defined? This presentation brings out a practical approach to steering projects to success and profitability. It delivers a practical and innovative framework encapsulated as ‘Assurance Management’ for converting unprofitable projects into profitable ones and profitable ones into excellent ones. ‘Assurance Management’ is complimentary to the traditional practice of Risk Management that takes care of the uncertainties in a project. It provides a framework for enhancing the leadership mindset by visualizing and utilizing all opportunities to the maximum potential in a real-time manner to steer a project to success. |

| Meet Madhavan S Rao |
Madhavan S Rao has a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering and over 25 years experience in Project Management, IT consulting, outsourcing and Account Management. He has executed projects as a Project Manager, Program Manager, both offshore and onsite for Fortune 500 clients across US, Germany and the Apac region. He has setup the Project Management CoE at Satyam. He is a PMP (since 2002) & a Member of PMI. He is the founder member of PMI Pearl City Chapter Hyderabad, India. He is Director, PMI Bangalore Chapter. (EC member for past 3+ years) He is also one of the editors of PMI Bangalore Chapter newsletter (Monthly) and has authored a book titled ‘Steering Project Success-Simple Innovations in Execution’. He also holds an IP, called 'Assurance based Project Management' based on which the book is written from a practitioner's perspective. |
