There is indeed a huge gap between the academic aspects of Project Management and what works in reality! In almost every workshop on Project Management that the speaker has led in the last decade, the participants have had one question in common—"tell us something that we can practice from tomorrow when we get back to work."
Some of the key objectives of productive Project Management are:
• Ensure optimum time, cost and quality
• Ensure that the resources are “loaded” and not “pressured”
• Generate a positive learning experience for the team
• Provide meaningful growth to the client, our own company, team and self
• Ensure that there is peace during crisis
As quoted by a noted leader, "the angel lies in strategy while the devil rests in the details".
This session presents a short list of practical tips across various topics like Estimation, WBS, scheduling, tracking, people management etc. These tips have been gathered from various practitioners of Project Management at different levels, across different types of companies functioning in different cultures.
These compelling tips focus on areas like:
• How to get the buy-in from the team for the plan/schedule?
• How to manage more budget when situation turns tight?
• When to stop breaking the work in WBS?
• Why the same tracking methods don’t work with different people?
• What is the crucial role of “rules of engagement”?
• How to make the team communicate effectively in a timely manner?
• How to handle crucial conversations across stake-holders? |
