Project failure in the Information Systems field is a costly problem and troubled projects are common. Project Turnaround Management is about recognizing the causes of failure and what different managerial actions can be taken to turnaround or redirect such projects. This session will give you an overview of how to determine whether a project needs help and how to implement the most effective rescue efforts. Effecting any successful recovery hinges on figuring out the root cause. There could be multiple causes like no compelling business case, no agreed-upon requirements or specification, no project plan or out-of date project plan, tough client, no change control system, no status reporting system and many such reasons that are prominent in the de-railing of a project from its path.
For corrective measures, we often resort to very conventional actions such as Scope Management through change requests, start to involve the users and stake holders, set and re-set the expectations, add more team members and other such measures. Although, these measures definitely increase the success rate of projects, these do not guarantee success of any project as these operate at a significantly higher level. This session highlights how some of the most basic daily project management activities can help turnaround the most difficult projects. These are the actions that are most often not considered important but are very critical for the success of projects and are the real “game changers”.
This session is aimed at Project Managers, Project Leads and others in managerial capacity handling projects or parts of it. |
