PADDY RAO, Infosys Technologies Ltd., India
‘ Integrating Six Sigma & CMM® For A Competitive Edge ’

Adaptability and resilience are two prime platforms on which we need to build a business plan. Any long term ( Decades+) view of any Industry will have to look at Cost Leadership as a growth plank , more than an insulator. Every initiative that an IT industry takes on must factor the cost leadership as one of its components. It is time SEPGSM started appearing in the 2 X 2 and 4 X 4 matrices that 'Big 5' are very fond of ; it is time that Forrester's & Cutters' start articulating about it. It is time the most competent MBAs ask for position in the SEPGSM. To achieve this we need to think radically different and out of Box. The Quality Community should relate deeper with the business community.

Paddy Rao has 10 years of mainframe & embedded apps experience & 6 years of experience as Operations Head & Six Sigma MBB/Champ. He is the First Champion/MBB of six sigma at GE Med Systems India. He has Deployed Six sigma in Mfg, Services, SW and sales. He has set up and headed Delphi Automotive System's Engg Software Operations. He is currently Associate VP, Infosys Technologies , championing Delivery Excellence.

‘ Changing Paradigm in Leadership In IT Business ’

The Leadership Paradigm in the current global environment has undergone a sea change. In the new economy, there are some challenges that we understand better, such as the emergence of a new global customer; there are some changes we understand a little less such as what kind of strategic responses we need to offer; but there are changes such as discontinuities in technology, the new emerging employee, impact of internet on business and future of the economic slow down that we understand the least.

Dileep Ranjekar is the Corporate Executive VP, HR of Wipro Corporation. He has provided leadership to the various innovative People Practices in Wipro ranging from talent access & selection, leadership development from within, individualized compensation, employee satisfaction, management development & making Wipro an exciting fun place. Currently, he also provides leadership to the efforts of Universalization of Elementary Education under Azim Premji Foundation.

DR. GARGI KEENI, TCS, India
‘ Will Any Model Help In Achieving Business Excellence ’

With the proliferation of a number of quality models, an organization is at crossroads to decide which model to adopt. It needs to answer the question of what is in it for the organization. It is for an organization to judge the benefits it can reap against the investment towards implementing these models for improvement. Buzz words like high maturity levels, zero defects, good enough software, voice of customer etc which are applicable in different contexts, need to be interpreted in the relevant perspective. In the session the presenter will address how TCS has adopted the MBNQA business excellence model to align the process, people & technology related initiatives in the business perspective - blending flavor of different models e.g. ISO, CMM®, CMMI®, Six Sigma, PCMM®.

Dr. Gargi Keeni is the Corporate Quality Head & VP at TCS, responsible for managing process improvement activities. She is CQA, PCMM® & CMM® Lead Assessor & an examiner for Tata Business Excellence Model, has conducted workshops on Quality Management, SCMM®, PCMM®, ISO 9000 & TBEM.

SUDHA RAMESH, Polaris, India
‘ CMMI®? Paradigm For The Future ’

The focus of this presentation will be on those aspects of CMMI®, which relates to the larger perspective of an organization. CMMI® goes beyond and explicitly mandates a mapping between business objectives of the organization and project goals. This is achieved in a quantitative fashion by stressing overtly on a measurement system in the organization right from the early levels of the maturity continuum. These and other key differences of this latest model catalyze and mobilize the organization for a concerted movement towards excellence in software.

Sudha Ramesh is the Senior VP of Quality at Polaris Software Lab. Under her leadership Polaris has achieved the coveted CMMI® Level-5. Prior to joining Polaris she worked in IBM, New York. There she developed mathematical models in the field of Quality and Reliability. She was a part of the Six-Sigma implementation team and had pioneered the application of QFD and Taghuchi in IBM.

P. J. ANANTHAKRISHNAN, Rational, India
‘ New Software Economics ’

Software and its development is getting increasingly complex. The session gives a view of the management of complexity. It starts with a simplified COCOMOII model of software economics, involving the effects of People, Tools, Complexity and Process on Effort. It then considers the steps necessary to improve each of these factors to reduce Effort while improving the ability to deliver on time and with Quality. Aspects covered include improving team proficiency, improving automation through integrated tools and related topics.

P. J. Ananthakrishnan has more than 20 years experience in software development, systems management, project management, process definition and implementation and quality systems. He is particularly involved in training, mentoring and helping clients adopt modern good software engineering practices, including Rational's Objectory / Unified Process.

Rajendra K. Bera, IBM Global Services, India
'The Great Millstone of Software Engineering'

The viewpoint is put forth that software engineering's continuing slow rate of development is its adherence to an archaic symbolic system. Because of it, software engineering has failed to make bold strides, think daringly in intellectual terms, and has very serious problems when stating requirements, making designs, and implementing code on machines. Program testing will remain an arduous brute force task unless program analysis can be done in symbolic terms. With a powerful symbolic system, software engineering's priorities will automatically shift from its focus on processes to a focus on managing talented people.

Dr Rajendra K Bera is the R&D Head of the Exports Group of IBM Global Services India. Previously he has worked as a research scientist (in various grades) with the National Aerospace Laboratories, Bangalore (1971-1995); as a visiting assistant professor of aerospace, mechanical, and nuclear engineering, University of Oklahoma, USA (1979-1980); and as a visiting faculty of aerospace engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (1988). His current research interests are in high performance computing related to grand challenge problems in science and technology, and in quantum computing. Dr. Bera received his B. Tech, M.Tech, and PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. He is a member of the New York Academy of Sciences, and a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India). He has been listed in the Marquis Who's Who in the World.
