QAI’S ROADMAP FOR CMMI® IMPLEMENTATION

Step Activity Description
I Consulting & Training's 2 day CMMI® Overview + 6 day CGA + 12 days Consulting
1 CMMI® Overview Training 2 day CMMI® Overview Training about the background of the model, structure and the details of all the Level's and respective KPA's of the model. This is an essential training/starting point for CMM®-cultural sensitization of the organization before they begin the SPI journey.
2 CMMI® Gap Analysis (CGA) CGA to study the current level of process maturity and to identify the Gaps between the current processes vis-a-vis the KPA's of CMMI®. The Gap Analysis also helps us in prioritizing and scheduling the various consulting and training requirements.
3 Action Planning This phase comes immediately after the Gap Analysis in which an Action Plan is drawn up for the future course of activities with specific milestones and deliverables. This action plan is drawn with the joint consensus of the organization (senior management + SEPGSM team) and the consultant.
4 In House Training's Address training needs as identified in the Action Plan e.g. Project Management, Configuration Management, Process Writing, Testing, SQA, Reviews and Inspection, Metrics, Statistical Techniques, Requirements Management, etc.
5 Consulting Periodic consulting/facilitation/ guidance for CMMI® implementation. The broad level activities that come under consulting are:a. KPA Development & Deploymentb. Facilitation & Reviewc. KPA Institutionalization(The consulting days are typically used to bridge up the Gaps which are identified at the time of the Gap Analysis and hence the number of days required would also depend on the findings of the Gap Analysis.)
II "CMMI® Readiness Check (CRC) Pre-Assessment" 4-5 days Pre Assessment
1 Pre Assessment (Before SCAMPISM-A) An informal Assessment based on the same guidelines as the Registered SCAMPISM-A. This acts like a mock assessment and is performed by an SEISM Authorized Lead Assessor.- It gives the organization a flavor of how the actual assessment is conducted.- Helps to identify the Final Gaps, which needs to be filled prior to the Final Assessment to ensure success.

III SCAMPISM-A Assessment 18-20 days SCAMPISM-A Assessment
1 SCAMPISM-A Assessment

Formal SEISM Registered and Authorized SCAMPISM-A Assessment which includes the following:

a. Perform SCAMPISM Preparation and Planning
b. Perform SCAMPISM Preparation and Planning
c. Conduct Training for SCAMPISM
d. Perform On-site Assessmente. Submit assessment report, wrap-up and make action plan

The SCAMPISM (Class A) Appraisal requires "Primary implementation indicators " or PIID's, that are a cross reference of the site processes to the specific practices in CMMI®. In a case where the PIID's are not in place, the appraisal team may take upto an extra week to do the appraisal.
