'Climbing the CMMI® Maturity Ladder with PSP^SM & TSP^SM'
The Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI®), the latest incarnation of the CMM®, provides a roadmap for software organizations to improve their software development processes.
The Personal Software process (PSP^SM), on the other hand, provides detailed guidance for individual software engineers to apply high maturity practices to their personal software tasks. The TSP^SM, an extension of the PSP^SM, is a fully defined & measured process that teams can use to plan their work, execute their plans & continuously improve their software development processes. Both the PSP^SM & the TSP^SM processes are defined in a series of process scripts that describe all aspects of project planning & product development.
Each of the three SEI^SM models - CMMI®, TSP^SM, & PSP^SM - provide a different, yet complimentary, perspective organizational, team & individual. Used together, in an integrated framework, these three models provide an optimal & accelerated path for process & organizational capability improvement & "climbing" the software maturity scale.
The presentation will outline the concepts & structures of the CMMI®, PSP^SM & the TSP^SM & how they can be integrated. Into a process improvement strategy. It will illustrate the SEI^SM - recommended roadmap for accelerated process improvement via use of the three models concurrently.

Iraj Hirmanpour is a Visiting Scientist with the Software Engineering Institute of Carnegie Mellon University. He is responsible for promoting the transition of PSP^SM & TSP^SM into academic curricula. He was previously Professor & Chair of the Computer Science Department at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University where he championed process education in both undergraduate & graduate software curricula.
Iraj is also principal of AMS, a software process improvement firm & an SEI^SM PSP^SM/TSP^SM transition partner. He is an SEI^SM-certified PSP^SM instructor & TSP^SM launch coach. He has served as a consultant/trainer on the transition of Personal Software Process & Team Software Process technology to organizations such as Motorola Paging Products Group, Boeing Company, Naval Oceanographic Office, & Sandia National Laboratories.

'Future Processes Must Tread an Evolutionary Path'
Major scientific & technological developments witnessed in the last quarter century now promise to unfold a future which will be remarkably dynamic & fast-paced. It also promises to be quite unpredictable in its impact on society, specially on its organization & its economic growth. Quantum computing, nanotechnology, unheard of computing power, deeper understanding of the human genome, speech recognition, & many others are now emerging from an incubation period into the real world. How they will shape the future & the new "disruptive" technologies they will spawn can only be guessed, seldom predicted. Hence IT processes will need to cope & deal with this unpredictable & fast-paced world. These processes, will need to ensure that creativity is not throttled & yet constraining enough to prevent anarchy in the new world. The processes must therefore have the ability to evolve, mutate, & adapt. In this talk, we will examine some of the key issues that one must bear in mind while creating processes & putting them into practice.

Dr. Rajendra K. Bera is currently the R&D Head of IBM Software Lab, India. Previously he has worked as a research scientist with the National Aerospace Laboratories, Bangalore; as a visiting Asst. Prof. of aerospace, mechanical, & nuclear engineering, University of Oklahoma, USA; & as a visiting faculty of aerospace engineering at IIT, Kanpur. His current research interests are in high performance computing related to grand challenge problems in science & technology, & in quantum computing & life sciences. He has been listed in the Marquis Who's Who in the World.

The goals of ISO lined up very well with the goals of the SEI^SM-CMMI® & it wasn't long till folks detected these similarities & perceived redundancies of effort. It proposes that harmonization of them can take place if the users understand their respective purposes & implement them in ways that avoid costly redundancies. Other hybrid models are explored. In addition, the latest status of software measurement models & associated metrics standards & guidelines developed by ISO/IEC JTC1 SC7 are discussed.
